Consider these verses
Eze 38:1-8 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them. After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
This is probably one of the most famous Bible passages when people speak of “End Times” biblically. Both Jewish Rabbi’s and Christian leaders point to these verses and see parallel’s to what is happening today in global politics.
Since the names of the nations have changed over time and boundaries have shifted since these Bible passages were written, scholars have mapped the historic labels to modern day nations and have been amazed. For this post I just want to focus on Russia (Meshech and Tubal), Persia (Iran) and the timing of these events being described (in the latter years).
With hundreds of Biblical prophecies already fulfilled to the letter, scholars point to the statistical impossibility of the Bible being anything but supernatural. Even in the passage above, we see Russia coming against a people gathered out of many people into Israel. Israel has reformed in their land post WWII. A people being restored to their homeland after 1800 years is just one more impossibility that the Bible predicted would happen. This restoration of Israel was needed as part of all of the end-times events the Bible said will happen. Now we are seeing them unfold as foretold.
I was very curious about this last conflict with the US and Iran in the Persian gulf. The bombings and blockade of the Straight of Hurmuz seemed to be leading to regime change in Iran. There are currently large protests in Iran against the IRGC (Islamic military leaders of Iran). For 47 years since they came to power overthrowing the prior secular government, they have repressed their people and enforced strict Sharia Law. Under this regime, they had formed partnerships with Russia, ties to China (for oil) and had threatened other Islamic nations like Saudi Arabia, because their version of Islam was different than theirs. For the Biblical end-times to proceed as the verses above state, the Iranian government needed to continue their alliance with Russia to fulfill this future battle scenario. It states that Russia will align with Iran, Turkey and some of the northern African nations to come against Israel in the “latter years”. If there was regime change back to a secular government, would that alignment become much less likely?
Regime change in Iran seemed to be at the very edge when the peace deal was announced. News reports from inside Iran have military officials leaving their posts to side with the Iranian people protesting and trying to overthrow the IRGC leaders. Millions of people and dozens of the largest towns in Iran had been taken over my anti-IRGC protesters. It seemed very imminent that the IRGC would be removed and yet a peace deal with them was signed. It is hard to say what might happen next. I write this post only to point out how in the end, the Bible is always true and this seems to be yet another event which points to the soon return of Jesus and the final seven year judgment of the Earth.
